In Matthew 9, Jesus went to a ruler's house to raise his daughter from the dead. The funeral mourners were already present.

The passage probably considered here is Luke 9:59-60, and has no reference to attending a funeral. Jesus is telling the man who would follow him not to delay in so doing. This verse cannot be taken in a literal sense because it is impossible for dead people to bury one another -- let the DEAD bury their dead.
