Things to Learn from a Dog

Topic(s): Wisdom

  • Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.

  • Allow simple things like the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

  • When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

  • Practice obedience to your Master.

  • Take naps; stretch before rising.

  • Run, romp, and play daily.

  • Play with children.

  • Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.

  • Be loyal.

  • Never pretend to be something you’re not.

  • If what you want lies buried, dig until you get it.

  • When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

  • Thrive on attention, and let people get close to you.

  • Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do.

  • When you’re happy, let others see it.

  • No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout. Run right back and make friends.

  • Bond with your pack.

  • Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

“For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”—1 Peter 3:10–12
